A major upgrade in creative software is now reaching users as Adobe begins rolling out a public beta of its AI assistant for Adobe Photoshop. The announcement follows the company’s earlier reveal of several artificial intelligence features during Adobe Max 2025 held in October last year.
The company confirmed that the AI assistant for Photoshop is now available in public beta. Users can access the feature through the web and mobile versions of Photoshop, and it is also integrated within Adobe Firefly. Until April 9, paid Photoshop subscribers can use the AI assistant for unlimited image generations and edits. Free users, however, can create up to 20 AI-powered image edits.
The new AI assistant allows users to modify images simply by entering text prompts. For example, users can instruct the tool to remove distractions from a picture or replace the background of a photo. The AI system can also refine lighting and adjust colours, contrast and saturation in an image.
In addition to automatic edits, the assistant can guide users through the editing process. It can provide step-by-step instructions for those who prefer to manually apply adjustments while learning the workflow.
The web version of Photoshop also includes a public beta of an AI assistant-powered feature called AI Markup. This tool is available in the contextual task bar and works similarly to the traditional Markup feature that allows users to select specific objects in an image. With AI Markup, users can choose a particular element and edit only that part using text prompts. For instance, a user can select a ball in an image and ask the AI assistant to change its colour.
Alongside the Photoshop update, Adobe has introduced several new capabilities for the Firefly Image Editor. These include the Generative Fill tool, which allows users to add, replace or refine elements within an image using prompts.
The company has also introduced the Generative Remove tool along with Generative Expand, Generative Upscale and Remove Background features. These tools are now available globally, offering users more AI-powered editing capabilities across Adobe’s creative ecosystem.
