Adobe has announced the integration of Google’s Gemini 2.5 Flash Image, nicknamed Nano Banana, and Black Forest Labs’ FLUX.1 Kontext [pro] into the Generative Fill tool in Photoshop beta. This marks the first time non-Adobe AI models have been added to Photoshop, expanding users’ choices alongside Adobe’s own Firefly image models.
Availability and Features Both Gemini 2.5 Flash Image (Nano Banana) and FLUX.1 Kontext [pro] are available now in the Photoshop beta. Previously, Gemini 2.5 Flash Image was added to Adobe Express.
The Nano Banana model is designed for stylized elements, graphic details, and imaginative scene enhancements. It allows users to add or transform image content through natural-language prompts while maintaining a distinct artistic style. Users can generate content with their chosen AI model and then refine results using Photoshop’s layers, masks, and selections without leaving the app.
FLUX.1 Kontext [pro] focuses on contextual accuracy, correct perspective, and environmental harmony, ensuring realistic image compositions. Adobe’s Firefly image models remain available for production workflows, offering controls for structure, style, camera angles, and rapid iteration up to 2K resolution for large-format printing and precise recompositions.
Impact for Photoshop Users With the integration of multiple AI models, Photoshop users now have more flexibility in creative workflows. They can choose between stylized effects with Nano Banana, realistic context with FLUX.1, or production-ready results with Firefly. The update also allows seamless combination of AI-generated elements with traditional Photoshop tools, streamlining the process from concept to final output.
By offering multiple AI engines in Generative Fill, Adobe provides users enhanced control over the look and feel of projects without needing extra plugins or third-party applications.
