Adobe Illustrator introduces Turntable feature to convert 2D designs into 3D views instantly

In a major update for designers and animators, Adobe has launched a new Turntable feature in Adobe Illustrator, enabling users to transform 2D vector designs into multi-angle 3D views within seconds.

The feature was first previewed at the Adobe MAX conference in October 2024 and has now been rolled out to all users after a beta phase. Turntable addresses a long-standing challenge in design workflows—manually recreating objects or characters from multiple angles.

“With Turntable, you can instantly generate multi-angle views from any vector illustration, bringing motion to characters and designs, and eliminate the need for repetitive manual redraws. What once took hours now happens in seconds, making it easier and more fun for designers and animators to turn static artwork into dynamic, expressive visuals,” said Deepa Subramaniam.

The tool allows users to generate up to 74 editable views from a single design, covering full rotation and vertical tilt. Each output remains a fully editable vector, allowing designers to refine and export files as needed.

Turntable also integrates smoothly with Adobe After Effects, enabling users to move directly into animation workflows without switching formats. This makes it easier to transition from static design to motion production.

To use the feature, designers select an object, navigate to Object > Generative > Turntable, and generate multiple views. The tool provides controls to rotate designs up to 180 degrees and tilt them 30 degrees up or down, offering a wide range of viewing angles.

During testing, animation teams used Turntable for faster character turnarounds, while game designers created 360-degree concept art more efficiently. Social media teams also used it to produce GIFs and micro-animations in less time.

Adobe says this feature is part of a broader push, alongside improved performance and AI-powered tools like Generative Shape Fill, to enhance creative workflows.
