Adobe adds AI-powered Quick Cut to simplify video editing workflows

In a move aimed at speeding up video creation, Adobe is introducing a new AI-driven feature called Quick Cut inside its Firefly video editor. The tool is designed to automatically generate a rough first cut of a video using raw footage and B-roll, guided by simple text instructions from users.

Quick Cut changes the traditional editing process, where creators manually import clips, trim unwanted sections, and assemble transitions. With the new feature, users can describe the type of video they want in plain language. The AI then scans available footage, removes unnecessary parts, selects suitable takes, and adds relevant B-roll to create smoother scene transitions.

According to a report by a technology publication, Quick Cut also lets users choose specific B-roll frames and generate short transition clips using Firefly’s built-in video models. Through the prompt field, creators can set preferences such as aspect ratio, transition pacing, and whether extra B-roll should be included. The feature can be applied to an entire project, a single timeline, or selected clips.

Adobe has said the purpose of Quick Cut is to accelerate the early stages of editing by producing a usable draft. Editors are still expected to refine cuts, adjust transitions, and make creative changes before completing the final video.

Separately, Adobe announced an education-focused initiative at the India AI Impact Summit. The company said it will offer free access to its creative and productivity software to students from 15,000 schools and 500 colleges across India. Eligible students will also be able to enrol in industry-aligned certificate courses at no cost through recognised higher education institutions.

According to Adobe, the programme is aimed at preparing learners for AI-driven careers in areas such as design, animation, gaming, marketing, media, and related fields. The initiative includes a structured learning framework, guided training modules, and formal credentials as part of the overall offering.
