Dhanbad Deputy Commissioner Aditya Ranjan has warned citizens about a fake Facebook profile created using his picture. The impersonator has been sending friend requests and messages through Facebook Messenger, raising concerns about possible misuse.
In an advisory issued on Friday, Ranjan appealed to the public not to engage with any messages from unauthorised accounts. He stressed the need for vigilance and urged people to be cautious when receiving suspicious friend requests, messages, or links.
The deputy commissioner clarified that he has not sent any messages or made monetary requests through such accounts. He further explained, “If anyone receives messages demanding money, offering inducements, or sharing unknown links from fake accounts or unauthorised phone numbers, they should immediately block the sender and report it to Facebook.”
Authorities have highlighted that cybercriminals often use impersonation tactics to trick citizens into sharing personal details or making payments. Such scams are becoming increasingly common, making awareness and quick reporting crucial to prevent financial or personal data loss.
Ranjan urged people to spread the word so that others do not fall victim to such fraudulent activities. He also assured that the matter is being monitored closely and necessary action will be taken against those responsible.
The advisory serves as a reminder for citizens to stay alert while using social media platforms. Officials have emphasised the importance of not clicking on suspicious links, not responding to unknown numbers, and verifying requests before taking any action online.
