Abu Dhabi Investment Authority (ADIA) to Invest 200 Million Dollars in Indian Medtech Firm Meril

A subsidiary of the Abu Dhabi Investment Authority has signed definitive agreements to invest 200 million dollars for approximately a 3 percent stake in Micro Life Sciences Private Limited, one of India’s top medical devices companies. The deal values Meril at an enterprise value of 6.6 billion dollars and is currently awaiting approval from the Competition Commission of India.

Following this investment, Meril will be supported by two major global investors, ADIA and Warburg Pincus.

Meril was founded by the Bilakhia Group and is known for offering clinically advanced medical solutions in several areas such as cardiovascular, structural heart, orthopaedics, endo-surgery, in-vitro diagnostics and surgical robotics.

Headquartered in Vapi, India, Meril operates a world-class, fully integrated MedTech campus spread across 100 acres. The facility includes advanced manufacturing and research centres certified to global standards. The company employs over 13,000 professionals, runs more than 35 international subsidiaries and delivers medical technology to over 150 countries.

Meril has developed a strong internal global research and development ecosystem with more than 200 technology platforms. It also supports continuous learning through 12 training academies worldwide, which train over 10,000 healthcare professionals each year.

Commenting on the development, Sanjeev Bhatt, Senior Vice President of Strategy at Meril, said, “This investment by ADIA reinforces confidence in Meril’s long term vision and global ambitions. This investment will enable us to accelerate growth, attract world-class talent, and further strengthen our RCD and clinical research efforts as we work towards improving the quality of human life through advanced healthcare solutions.”

Established in 1976, the Abu Dhabi Investment Authority is a globally diversified investment firm that manages funds on behalf of the Government of Abu Dhabi, with a focus on generating long-term value.
