Gautam Adani, the Chairman of the Adani Group, has unveiled an ambitious initiative aimed at transforming India’s healthcare system. He has pledged ₹60,000 crore (around $7.2 billion) from his family’s philanthropic commitment to support healthcare, education, and skill development.
This visionary project will introduce “Adani Healthcare Temples,” a series of top-notch, affordable, and AI-driven integrated health campuses throughout the country, starting with Ahmedabad and Mumbai.
Adani family plans to invest over ₹6,000 crore (approximately $686 million) to construct the first two integrated health campuses in Ahmedabad and Mumbai. These all-encompassing facilities, referred to as “Adani Health Cities” (AHCs), will each house a 1,000-bed multi-super-specialty hospital along with integrated medical colleges that can accommodate 150 undergraduates, over 80 residents, and more than 40 fellows annually. Additionally, the campuses will feature step-down and transitional care units, as well as state-of-the-art research centers dedicated to clinical research, artificial intelligence, and biomedical informatics.
A key element of this initiative is a strategic alliance with the esteemed Mayo Clinic in the U.S. Through its global consulting division, Mayo Clinic will offer strategic guidance and technical know-how, steering the design, execution, and compliance with international standards in medical infrastructure and research for these emerging healthcare ecosystems.
While addressing top surgeons in Mumbai, Gautam Adani urged for an “entrepreneurial revolution” in medicine, highlighting the necessity for technology, compassion, and significant philanthropic investment to revolutionize healthcare. He mentioned that the Adani Group is not entering the healthcare sector to compete, but rather to help reimagine it, creating a system that evolves with scientific advancements, adapts to changing demands, and fully utilizes AI while prioritizing human elements.
The Adani Group also intends to broaden the Adani Health City concept to additional cities and towns throughout India, aiming to establish a cohesive healthcare ecosystem nationwide. Additionally, there are plans to create hospitals strategically positioned near the airports operated by the conglomerate, utilizing existing infrastructure to improve medical travel and capitalize on the expanding medical tourism sector.
This investment highlights the Adani Group’s dedication to delivering affordable, top-tier medical care and education to individuals from all socio-economic backgrounds in India, with the goal of raising the country’s healthcare standards and addressing urgent needs through innovation and scalability.
