Adani Group has appointed Sanjay Behl as the Chief Operating Officer (COO) of Adani Cement, marking a significant strategic move for the conglomerate’s cement division. In his new capacity, Behl will oversee a broad range of operations including sales, marketing, branding, and logistics. His leadership will extend over some of the country’s most prominent cement brands, including Ambuja and ACC, as well as regional champions like Penna and Sanghi.
Before joining Adani Cement, Behl was the CEO and Executive Director of Greaves Electric Mobility (GEM), where he played an instrumental role in the company’s meteoric rise within India’s electric vehicle (EV) market. Under his guidance, GEM emerged as a leading force in the sector, capitalizing on strategic acquisitions and expanding its reach through affordable electric two-wheelers, such as Ampere, and three-wheelers like Ele and Teja. Behl’s tenure at GEM was marked by rapid expansion, growing the company’s dealer network to over 400, establishing 1,000 retail points, and amassing a customer base of more than 200,000.
Prior to his impressive stint at GEM, Behl had a successful career at Raymond, where he spearheaded the transformation of the iconic Indian textile and apparel brand. He also served in key leadership roles at Reliance Group and Nokia, enriching his diverse experience in both national and international markets. Behl’s professional journey began at Hindustan Unilever Limited (HUL) in 1993, which laid the foundation for his future successes in corporate leadership.
With his extensive track record in leading large-scale businesses across different sectors, Behl’s appointment signals a new phase for Adani Cement as it seeks to further consolidate its position in the highly competitive cement industry. His vast experience in managing large teams, driving growth, and creating strong brand identities will undoubtedly be instrumental in propelling the company towards new heights.
As COO, Behl’s vision and leadership are expected to significantly enhance Adani Cement’s national and regional market presence, ensuring the brand continues to thrive and innovate within India’s rapidly evolving construction sector.
