Accenture is set to expand its footprint in India with a proposal to establish a new campus in Andhra Pradesh, aiming to add nearly 12,000 jobs. The move comes shortly after the United States announced a steep annual fee of $100,000 on H1B visas, effective from 21 September 2025, a decision expected to impact the Indian IT sector, which is the largest beneficiary of the programme.
According to people familiar with the matter, the consulting major has sought around 10 acres of land in Visakhapatnam from the Andhra Pradesh government under favourable terms. A senior official confirmed the development, stating, “It is not an unreasonable ask by Accenture, and the proposal will go through,” while adding that approvals could take some time but clearance is expected.
India accounts for more than 300,000 of Accenture’s global workforce of 790,000 employees, making it the company’s largest talent hub worldwide. The expansion in Andhra Pradesh further reinforces the firm’s reliance on India for its growing talent needs.
Although Accenture has not disclosed its planned investment for the new facility, the move aligns with similar initiatives by other IT leaders. Tata Consultancy Services and Cognizant have already leveraged a new state policy offering leased land at 0.99 rupees per acre to companies that generate large-scale employment. Both firms have secured land under this scheme to set up campuses in Visakhapatnam, with TCS committing over $154 million and Cognizant investing $183 million. Together, their projects are expected to generate around 20,000 jobs.
The Andhra Pradesh government has been actively encouraging global technology companies to invest in the state, positioning Visakhapatnam as a growing hub for IT development and employment generation. Accenture’s proposal, once approved, would mark another significant step in strengthening the state’s digital economy and creating opportunities for skilled professionals.
