A Junior VC Raises ₹100 Crore for Pre-Seed Investments

Investor and former executive at Venture Highway, Aviral Bhatnagar, has successfully launched AJVC’s (A Junior VC) first fund, raising ₹100 crore. AJVC plans to invest in 12-15 startups each year, with a focus on emerging technologies like AI, SaaS, and consumer tech.

This fund specifically targets the pre-seed stage in India, a sector Bhatnagar sees as largely underexplored in the country’s startup landscape.

“I did not expect this kind of response when I started the fund. Beyond hitting our target raise, we have received over 5,500 applications and made nine investments. The response is both overwhelming and humbling,” said Bhatnagar.

Founded in 2018 by Bhatnagar, AJVC has already backed nine startups across various industries, including five in AI, two direct-to-consumer brands, one B2B company, and one consumer tech firm. The fund’s flexible approach allows it to pursue a wide range of opportunities, aligning with the expanding tech scene in India.

Reports indicate that the ₹100 crore fund was oversubscribed, surpassing its original target. AJVC is contemplating the use of the green shoe option to take advantage of the strong interest. This strategic decision underscores the fund’s attractiveness to investors and its potential for growth.
