DRI uncovers major link between Bihar based operatives and Myanmar’s KK Park cyber network

A quiet operation in Darbhanga district has led the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence to a significant breakthrough, revealing direct links between local youths and the KK Park cyber scam network in Myanmar. The investigation has exposed how operatives in Bihar were being guided by Chinese handlers connected to the notorious cyber hub that is currently under action by Myanmar and United States authorities.

According to sources, the scale of the case is far larger than initially expected, prompting the agency to prioritise the probe. The matter has also drawn the attention of the Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman due to the sensitive findings.

The key accused, Roshan Kumar Jha, aged 30, has emerged as the central figure. He was reportedly receiving instructions from Chinese handlers based in KK Park. A resident of Balha village, he had established three spoofing centres in Darbhanga. These centres were fitted with advanced communication tools and prepared for operations. The locations included the Matrichaya Building near Gyan Bharti Public School in Laxmi Sagar, a site near J P Chowk and another at Sahu Niwas in Madarpur close to Marwari College.

While local authorities in Bihar were focused on election related duties, the Patna team of the DRI intercepted two suspicious consignments from Thailand. The parcels were wrongly declared as power amplifiers and were delivered to New Delhi and Kolkata. Both were addressed to Bittu from Havi Bhouar village, identified as a close associate of Roshan.

On October 31, the DRI detained Bittu when he came to collect one of the parcels. The consignment contained five VOIP devices, four units with thirty two SIM slots and one unit with two hundred fifty six SIM slots, all labelled Made in China. The second parcel in Kolkata carried similar equipment. Both shipments were seized.

During questioning, Bittu stated that the consignments were meant for Roshan, whom he described as his manager. The agency later arrested Roshan from Bihar. He is originally from Balha village under Bahera Police Station and is accused of selling fake SIM cards in bulk and working under a Chinese handler. He allegedly admitted that he was instructed to set up three spoofing centres equipped with WiFi controlled smart sockets, high capacity inverter systems, cameras, SIM boxes and other communication devices.
