Flipkart has announced a zero commission model for all products priced below Rs 1,000. The company says the new structure will help sellers reduce costs and improve customer affordability. This update also applies to Shopsy, which is Flipkart’s hypervalue platform. On Shopsy, zero commission will now be applied to all products, regardless of their price. The details were shared in a company statement.
Flipkart says that all eligible sellers listing products below Rs 1,000 will not be charged any commission fee. The company states that the initiative is designed to support MSMEs and help them manage the cost of doing business in a more efficient way. It adds that the zero commission model on Shopsy further strengthens its role as a platform that supports sellers in the hypervalue segment. Flipkart believes this will also improve affordability for customers. The company says the updated structure could reduce the cost of doing business by up to 30 per cent for sellers.
Sakait Chaudhary, who is Senior Vice President and Head of Marketplace at Flipkart, says the MSME sector contributes about 30 per cent to India’s GDP. He says Flipkart wants to support this segment by removing barriers and allowing more regional and emerging brands to enter the digital economy with confidence.
He says that for customers, the zero commission model will offer more affordable options, especially in essential and value led categories where products priced below Rs 1,000 are in high demand. He adds that the initiative reflects Flipkart’s long term vision to create an inclusive, accessible and growth centred ecommerce ecosystem that supports sellers and their ambitions.
