Government issues safety guidelines for pensioners submitting digital life certificates

Pensioners across India are submitting their digital life certificates through the annual campaign running from November 1 to November 30, 2025. As more pensioners turn to online systems, the Department of Pension and Pensioners’ Welfare has issued important precautions to protect them from cyber fraud, identity theft and financial scams.

The department advised pensioners to use only official platforms to submit their digital life certificates. These include the Jeevan Pramaan portal, the Post Office app or the Aadhaar Face RD application. Pensioners are warned not to share details with unauthorised agents or unverified applications.

They must keep their Aadhaar number and pension related information secure. The department stressed that pensioners should never share Aadhaar numbers, OTPs, bank account details, pension payment order numbers or mobile numbers with unknown people. Government agencies will not ask for passwords, OTPs or bank PINs through calls or emails. Pensioners are urged to verify any message claiming to be from a government source.

The department also asked pensioners to keep their devices updated with the latest security patches and antivirus software. They should use only secure internet connections while submitting certificates online. In case of suspicious activity or attempted fraud, pensioners can immediately report issues to their bank or through the national cybercrime portal.

Every central government pensioner must submit a life certificate every November to continue receiving pension without delays. The digital system makes this process easier by removing the need to visit a bank or other agency in person.

Pensioners can submit their certificates either offline at banks, common service centres or through doorstep banking, or they can complete the process online.

Before generating a digital life certificate, pensioners need an Aadhaar number, an active mobile number and prior registration of Aadhaar with their pension disbursing agency. They should also have details such as the type of pension, sanctioning authority, disbursing agency, pension payment order number and pension account number. If they have submitted digital certificates before, most of these fields will appear automatically.
