WhatsApp is reportedly introducing a new Media Hub feature designed to simplify how users find and manage shared files across chats. Initially being rolled out to a limited number of users on WhatsApp Web and WhatsApp for Mac, the new centralised hub allows users to view all shared content including photos, videos, documents, and links in one place, without the need to open individual conversations. The Meta-owned platform is also expected to let users organise files by size within the Media Hub. The feature was first spotted under development in May this year.
WhatsApp launches centralised Media Hub for web and desktop users
According to reports from a feature tracking platform, some users on WhatsApp for Web and Mac have begun receiving access to the new Media Hub feature. This tool provides a single location to access recent images, videos, GIFs, links, and documents shared across multiple chats, making navigation more convenient.
A screenshot shared by the platform shows that the Media Hub only displays recently shared media. Located in the sidebar, it reportedly includes a dedicated button for quick access. Users can also search for files using an integrated search bar and apply filters such as the contact’s name, the caption, or the date the file was sent.
The feature is said to support multi-select, allowing users to manage multiple files at once. Media can be sorted chronologically for better organisation, and users can also sort by file size, which helps identify large files and manage storage space more effectively.
The Media Hub, which was first detected in development earlier this year, is now being gradually rolled out to test its performance and gather user feedback before a broader release.
Other recent WhatsApp updates
In addition to the Media Hub, WhatsApp recently launched its new Apple Watch app. Available for Apple Watch Series 4 and newer models, the app enables users to send voice notes, receive call notifications, react to messages, view longer messages, and access chat history directly from their watch.
WhatsApp is also working on a new “Strict” account settings mode to enhance security and protect users from cyberattacks. This feature was spotted in the beta version of WhatsApp for Android 2.25.33.4.
