Google introduces AI-powered tools to transform learning in India

Google has unveiled a wide range of artificial intelligence-powered learning tools to reshape education in India. The launch is part of its latest position paper titled AI and the Future of Learning, released today.

The company is introducing nine AI capabilities across its platforms — Gemini, NotebookLM, and Google Search — to create interactive and personalised learning experiences for students. These tools are built on advanced AI models and grounded in proven learning science principles, promoting exploration and understanding rather than providing direct answers.

Guided learning for problem-solving

Gemini’s Guided Learning feature helps students approach complex problems step by step. It provides adaptive tools, explanations and multimodal responses, asking open-ended questions that encourage critical thinking instead of offering immediate solutions.

Smart preparation tools for study materials

Students can now generate flashcards, study guides, and quizzes from class materials, text passages, or even photographs of handwritten notes. These customisable tools transform existing content into focused study aids for exam preparation.

Gemini Live for voice-based tutoring

Gemini Live offers real-time, voice-activated tutoring through Project Astra technology. Students can use their voice and camera simultaneously to point at a problem and receive spoken guidance through an interactive dialogue.

Audio and video overviews for easier learning

NotebookLM simplifies complex research by converting documents into narrated summaries in several Indian languages. The tool also offers enhanced audio and video overviews using Gemini’s image generation model, giving students multiple ways to grasp information.

Mind maps for visual learning

The mind mapping feature in NotebookLM allows students to organise their ideas visually, highlighting connections between materials. This visual structure aids in better understanding and long-term retention.

Automated quizzes and flashcards

NotebookLM automatically creates flashcards and quizzes from uploaded notes and documents, allowing students to test their knowledge across entire syllabi without additional effort.

Tailored summaries for focused learning

Students can instantly generate study guides and briefing notes that summarise key themes, topics, or industries found in their source material, helping them extract essential insights quickly.

Lens in AI Mode for visual comprehension

Google Search’s enhanced Lens feature, available in multiple Indian languages, helps decode visual challenges such as charts and diagrams, supporting students in understanding difficult visual content.

Search Live for instant camera-based support

Rolling out in English and Hindi, Search Live allows students to use their camera and voice directly within Search to get real-time hints or explanations for challenging questions.

Google noted strong adoption of these AI learning tools among Indian students. The company stated that its approach to AI learning focuses on sparking curiosity and encouraging exploration, ensuring technology enhances rather than replaces critical thinking in education.
