Pinterest is giving users more control over their feeds by introducing new tools to limit AI-generated content, following complaints about an increase in so-called “AI slop.” The update allows users to personalize their experience and reduce the amount of generative AI imagery they see.
The platform, widely used for browsing and saving inspirational content, had faced backlash as AI-generated posts surged, affecting categories like beauty, art, fashion, and home décor. Pinterest previously introduced “AI modified” labels to identify such content, and now the company is making these labels more visible while offering users direct ways to filter their feeds.
Pinterest new controls are available under the “Refine your recommendations” section in the app’s Settings menu. Users can select categories where they want to see less AI content and adjust preferences at any time. Feedback can also be submitted while browsing; users can tap the three-dot menu on any Pin to mark it as AI-generated and refine recommendations accordingly.
Pinterest notes that generative AI content now accounts for 57 percent of online material, highlighting the challenge of maintaining authentic and high-quality content. The tools will first launch on the website and Android devices, with an iOS rollout planned in the coming weeks. The company also plans to expand category options in the future based on user feedback.
By giving users more control over AI content, Pinterest aims to preserve the quality of its platform and ensure that users continue to find genuine inspiration and ideas without being overwhelmed by AI-generated material.
