Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) plans to retrain approximately 100,000 employees every year, around one-sixth of its global workforce, as artificial intelligence transforms client needs, according to a report by a leading business publication.
Chief Technology Officer Harrick Vin said the rise of generative AI is unlike any previous technological shift. He highlighted that AI tools capable of learning and evolving require new approaches to testing and quality assurance. To prepare for these changes, TCS is expanding internal learning programs. Employees are encouraged to experiment with AI tools and participate in hackathons to gain hands-on experience. Vin added, “every organisation will have to do this.”
Financial results and workforce restructuring
For the July-September quarter, TCS reported a consolidated net profit of ₹12,075 crore, up 1.4 per cent from the previous year, while revenue grew 2.4 per cent to ₹65,799 crore. Restructuring costs of ₹11.35 billion impacted overall profitability.
CEO K Krithivasan said the company’s “deep client engagement and AI-led solutions” will support growth momentum in coming quarters. In July, TCS announced plans to reduce its workforce by around 12,200 employees, roughly 2 per cent of its headcount, by March 2026 to become a “future-ready organisation.” The company’s total workforce fell by nearly 20,000 in the latest quarter, bringing headcount to 593,314, marking one of the steepest declines in its history.
Global expansion amid workforce changes
Despite restructuring, TCS continues to expand internationally. The company plans to create 5,000 new jobs in the United Kingdom over the next three years. It also launched an AI Experience Zone and Design Studio in London, its second-largest design hub after New York.
TCS has been operating in the UK for over five decades, directly and indirectly supporting around 42,000 jobs. The new hubs, modelled on its flagship PacePort facility, aim to foster innovation, client collaboration, and advanced AI-led solutions.
