Lenovo’s latest Work Reborn report has raised concerns over the growing threat of AI-driven cybercrime and the widening gap in enterprise security. The study revealed that 65% of IT leaders believe their current defences are outdated and ineffective against AI-enabled attacks, while only 31% expressed confidence in their ability to withstand them.
According to the company, while AI has brought efficiency and innovation to businesses, it has also equipped cybercriminals with powerful tools that most organisations are not prepared to counter. Lenovo stressed the urgent need for enterprises to adopt AI-driven security strategies capable of adapting and evolving in real time.
The company added that it is positioned to support this shift with end-to-end digital workplace solutions embedded with AI security. Operating across 180 markets, Lenovo said it can help protect sensitive data and address the fast-changing landscape of cyber threats.
“AI has changed the balance of power in cybersecurity. To keep up, organisations need intelligence that adapts as fast as the threats. That means fighting AI with AI,” said Rakshit Ghura, Vice President and General Manager, Lenovo Digital Workplace Solutions.
“With intelligent, adaptive defences, IT leaders can protect their people, assets, and data while unlocking AI’s full potential to drive business forward.”
The New Class of AI Threats
The report warned that the rise of generative AI has transformed cybercriminal tactics, enabling highly agile and sophisticated attacks. According to Lenovo, “modern AI-driven threats can mimic legitimate behaviour, mutate to avoid detection, and span multiple domains from cloud to endpoints, applications, and data repositories.”
The key concerns outlined include:
-
AI-powered external threats – cyberattacks such as polymorphic malware, AI-driven phishing, and deepfake impersonation are becoming faster, more convincing, and harder to detect.
-
Insider risks – 70% of IT leaders view employee misuse of AI as a major risk, while over 60% believe AI agents introduce a new type of insider threat they are unprepared to manage.
-
Protection of AI itself – AI models, training data, and prompts are now high-value targets that require strong safeguards against manipulation and compromise.
