Larsen and Toubro has announced that it has received a large contract for the Mumbai Ahmedabad bullet train project. The company defines any contract between Rs 2,500 crore and Rs 5,000 crore as a large order.
The order has been awarded by the National High Speed Rail Corporation Ltd to L&T’s Transportation Infrastructure business. Under this contract, L&T will construct 156 route kilometres of high speed ballastless track, known as Package T1, for the Mumbai Ahmedabad High Speed Rail corridor.
This marks the second track work package awarded to L&T in the same project. In April 2022, the company won Package T3 which covered 116 kilometres from the south of Vadodara city to Sabarmati depot. According to the company, that project is progressing rapidly.
With the addition of this new contract, L&T is now responsible for more than 50 per cent of the track works in the Mumbai Ahmedabad High Speed Rail corridor. The project will use Japanese Shinkansen J Slab Track Technology. This advanced system allows trains to run at speeds of up to 320 kilometres per hour while also offering smoother ride quality, longer service life, and easier maintenance.
This achievement highlights L&T’s growing role in building India’s first bullet train project and its contribution to high speed rail development in the country.
