HUMAIN, a Saudi Arabian artificial intelligence company, has introduced Humain Chat, an Arabic-native chatbot built on the Allam large language model. The company claims it is the “world’s most advanced Arabic-first AI model.”
The chatbot has been trained on one of the largest Arabic datasets ever compiled, making it fluent in both Arabic and English. It can also understand regional dialects such as Egyptian and Lebanese. HUMAIN has highlighted that the system is built with sensitivity to “Islamic culture, values, and heritage.”
Humain Chat is powered by the ALLAM 34B model and aims to go beyond translation. The company describes its goal as providing “linguistic equality.” The chatbot offers features such as real-time web search, Arabic speech input, smooth switching between Arabic and English, and collaboration tools. The platform is hosted fully within Saudi Arabia and is designed to comply with the country’s Personal Data Protection Law. In its announcement, the company stated, “For the first time, people can create, learn, and connect in their own language, culture, and context.”
Despite its promises, the launch has raised some questions. The project originated under the Saudi Data and Artificial Intelligence Authority, which has led to concerns about compliance with censorship laws. However, experts note that the challenge of bias is not limited to this region.
In the United States, AI models have also been criticised for reflecting cultural and political leanings. OpenAI has acknowledged that ChatGPT is “skewed towards Western views.” Elon Musk’s xAI has adjusted its Grok model to reflect certain ideological positions, while the Trump administration previously pushed for artificial intelligence systems that aligned with federal guidelines.
The introduction of Humain Chat marks a significant step in the development of regional AI technologies, positioning Arabic language and culture at the forefront of artificial intelligence innovation.
