Marks & Spencer has named Hayley Tatum as its new Chief People Officer, effective October 2025. The announcement was made by CEO Stuart Machin in a LinkedIn post.
Tatum joins the British retailer from Asda, where she held the same position for over 14 years, nine of which she also served as Chief Corporate Affairs Officer. She will become a member of the Executive Committee and begin her month-long induction by working in stores alongside store colleagues and in distribution centres with distribution teams.
She will succeed Sarah Findlater, who has been People Director for the past three years and has worked with Marks & Spencer for 27 years. Findlater will step down in the autumn. Machin described Tatum as “a fantastic colleague and leader in the business over her time with M&S.”
Having worked with Tatum before, Machin praised her “hands-on and collaborative leadership style” developed through Tatum extensive experience in HR and store operations. He added, “We have lots to do in the years ahead to transform M&S and importantly, become even closer to our customers and closer to our colleagues.”
In her farewell message, Findlater said, “It’s been a real privilege to grow through so many leadership roles and to work alongside some truly fabulous people who’ve inspired me every step of the way, and never more so than during the three months I recently spent working in stores alongside our incredible store colleagues. I leave the business at a high point – after three years of commercial growth, cultural transformation, and deep operational change.”
