Google has revealed a number of Firebase Studio upgrades that will increase the tool’s capacity for AI development and strengthen its connection with well-known frameworks and Firebase services. In recognition of the sizable and vibrant developer community in the nation, the new capabilities were presented during I/O Connect India.
AI-optimized templates for Flutter, Angular, React, Next.js, and generic Web projects are at the heart of the release. With the workspace set to an independent Agent mode by default, these templates let developers use Google’s AI helper, Gemini, to create apps in Firebase Studio.
A new airules.md file that contains coding instructions and guidelines unique to the Gemini project is now included in templates.
“We’re unveiling new updates that help you combine the power of Gemini with these new features to go from idea to app using some of your favourite frameworks and languages,” said Vikas Anand, director of product management at Google.
Gemini can now be directly prompted by Firebase Studio to integrate backend services. Gemini will suggest and integrate pertinent Firebase services, such as adding libraries, changing code, and helping with configuration, when developers use an AI-optimized template or an App Prototyping Agent to simply define the needed functionality.
“You can get assistance from Gemini to help you plan and execute tasks independently without waiting for step-by-step approval,” said Jeanine Banks, vice president and general manager, Developer X at Google.
The capability to fork workspaces is another important update. In order to facilitate safer experimentation, debugging, and cooperation without compromising the primary project, this feature allows users to duplicate their whole project, including their chat history with the agent.
A new feature called “enhance prompts” was also revealed, enabling users to utilize Gemini to hone and develop concepts before producing code. It is now simpler to import complicated or large-scale apps into Firebase Studio thanks to the increase in the maximum upload size for projects to 100MB.
In the upcoming weeks, more templates that support languages like Go, Node.js, and.NET will be released. According to Google, these upgrades are a part of a larger effort to make AI-assisted programming available to all developers, regardless of experience level.
