Zoom’s Q1 Bloom: AI Magic, New Markets and Rising Giants

In a season where giants dominate the field, Zoom is quietly crafting its own legend. The first quarter of 2026 painted a picture of purpose, as Zoom posted revenues of $1.17 billion, showing a gentle 2.9 percent rise from last year. Yet numbers alone cannot explain the poetry unfolding behind the screens.

One of the most striking notes came from its climb in premium client count. Customers spending over $100,000 annually rose by 8 percent, a sign that big business believes in Zoom’s rhythm. Even with Microsoft towering at 46 percent of the unified communications space, Zoom has shown there’s still room to move, grow, and win hearts.

At the centre of this progress lies innovation. Zoom CEO Eric Yuan brought personality to progress by saying, “Today, I’m using our new Custom Avatars for Zoom Clips with AI Companion to share my part of the earnings report.” A first among leaders, he shared through an avatar, blending technology and presence.

Zoom’s focus has shifted to the workers on the ground. With the unveiling of Zoom Workplace for Frontline, the company stepped into sectors often overlooked, from healthcare to retail and emergency services. “80 percent of the workers in the world are frontline workers, and yet only 1 percent of the SaaS spend is on them,” noted CFO Michelle Chang, revealing an ocean of potential waiting to be tapped.

The AI Companion is also no longer just a support act. Now customizable through Zoom AI Studio, companies can build smart agents that fit their exact needs. “We’re now monetizing through Custom AI Companion,” Yuan confirmed, setting the stage for deeper value.

Meanwhile, Zoom’s Virtual Agent has transformed customer support. It boasts a 97 percent self-service rate, with Chang confirming record upsell numbers in Q1. The Contact Center also saw a 65 percent rise in customers.

Even in the shadow of Microsoft, Zoom stands its ground, armed with affordability, simplicity and charm. New features like Workflow Automation and Zoom Tasks are giving users more power with less complexity.

“If we keep improving the product experience… we will see more and more opportunities,” Yuan said.
