Hyderabad Cyber Crime Police Refunds Rs 62.46 Lakh to Fraud Victims

In a significant move, the Hyderabad Cyber Crime Police successfully refunded a total of Rs 62,46,900 to victims of various frauds as of February 19, 2025. The refunded amount covers 16 different fraud cases, showcasing the tireless efforts of the police in addressing online crimes.

According to the Cyber Crime Police, these fraud cases involved several deceptive methods, including scams related to stock trading, FedEx, money laundering, loan fraud, and impersonation fraud.

In eight cases of stock trading and investment fraud, victims were tricked by fraudsters who promised high returns on investments. Thanks to court orders, the concerned banks refunded Rs 12,16,773 to the victims. In addition, six cases involved scams where victims were deceived under the pretense of FedEx/digital arrests or money laundering schemes. For these cases, a total of Rs 47,85,759 was refunded by the respective banks.

A loan fraud case also came to light, where fraudsters impersonated loan providers. One victim was defrauded, but after investigation, Rs 1,24,334 was refunded. Additionally, a victim of impersonation fraud, involving a company and its invoice, was refunded Rs 1,20,221. All refunds were processed based on orders passed by the Magistrate of the XII ACMM Court, Anusha, and were facilitated through the efforts of the Cyber Crime Police teams. The respective banks credited these amounts directly to the victims’ accounts.

The Cyber Crime Police have also issued a strong warning to citizens regarding common fraud tactics. They advised the public not to panic if they receive threatening video calls from individuals pretending to be officials from agencies such as the CBI, RBI, ED, Customs, Judges, Cyber Crime Police, Narcotics, FedEx, BSNL, or TRAI. The police clarified that no legitimate government agency or law enforcement body will demand money via Skype calls or conduct digital arrests or inquiries.

Another area of concern is fake investment schemes circulating on social media platforms like Telegram, WhatsApp, Instagram, Facebook, and X. These fraudulent groups entice people with promises of high returns and low risk. The police urged citizens to only invest through SEBI-approved apps and to consult SEBI-registered financial advisors before making any financial commitments.

If you fall victim to cyber fraud, the police encourage you to immediately call the helpline at 1930 or register a complaint at cybercrime.gov.in.
