In an effort to improve browsing experience, Google has rolled out new features for its Chrome browser, including vertical tabs and an upgraded reading mode. The update aims to make navigation easier and reduce distractions while browsing.
The new vertical tabs feature allows users to move tabs from the top of the browser to the side. This option can be enabled by right-clicking on any Chrome window and selecting “Show Tabs Vertically.” The layout helps users view full tab titles and manage multiple tabs more efficiently, especially when handling double-digit tab counts. It also supports better multitasking and can be adjusted based on user preference.
With this update, Chrome aligns with other browsers like Microsoft Edge and Mozilla Firefox, which already offer similar vertical tab functionality.
Alongside this, Google has upgraded Chrome’s reading mode. Users can access it by right-clicking on a webpage and selecting “Open in reading mode.” The feature removes visual clutter and converts the page into a clean, text-focused format, now available in a full-page interface.
Google has been steadily adding new capabilities to Chrome. Last month, it introduced the Gemini side panel for users in India. However, the feature currently does not include the Auto Browse capability available in the U.S., which allows Gemini to perform tasks automatically within the browser.
Earlier in February, Chrome also received updates such as Split View and built-in PDF markup tools, further enhancing productivity features.
These additions reflect Google’s continued focus on improving usability, multitasking, and content consumption within its browser.
