In a continued push against online fraud, cybercrime authorities in Hyderabad intensified enforcement efforts in March, registering hundreds of cases and making multiple arrests across states.
Officials registered 54 FIRs during the month based on complaints received through the National Cybercrime Reporting Portal (NCRP). As part of special operations, 20 suspects were arrested from 5 states in connection with 13 cybercrime cases. Authorities also facilitated refunds of Rs 1.59 crore to affected victims.
At the same time, Zonal Cyber Cells handled 3,081 NCRP petitions. This led to the registration of 276 FIRs and the arrest of 4 individuals in separate cases. An additional Rs 95.99 lakh was recovered and returned to victims.
The cases addressed during the month included 8 gaming frauds, 3 investment frauds, 3 matrimonial frauds, 2 job frauds, and 1 impersonation fraud. Most of the accused were from Telangana, followed by individuals from Andhra Pradesh, Kerala, Goa, and Rajasthan.
During the operations, police seized Rs 6.5 lakh in cash along with 14 mobile phones, 4 laptops, 9 cheque books, and 2 shell company stamps.
Cyber patrol teams also identified 129 social media profiles that were running nearly 500 advertisements promoting illegal online betting and gaming applications.
Under victim assistance initiatives, the ‘C-Mitra’ programme reached out to 1,730 victims and helped register 262 Zero FIRs, ensuring quicker legal action and support.
The crackdown highlights the growing scale of cybercrime and the efforts being taken to strengthen enforcement, recovery, and victim support systems.
