A new industry analysis highlights how ChatGPT and other generative AI platforms are actively using search engine optimisation (SEO) to drive sustained growth and revenue. The report, published by Search Engine Land, explains that SEO remains a critical channel for discovery, user acquisition, and monetisation in the AI era.
The findings show that generative platforms are investing in technical optimisation, structured content strategies, and conversion-focused frameworks to expand their digital reach. ChatGPT alone attracts an estimated 76.5 million organic visits per month. Based on conservative conversion assumptions and a starting subscription price of USD 20 per month, this could translate into nearly USD 92 million in projected annual revenue. The data suggests a strong return on investment from organic search.
The report also points to hiring trends that reinforce this focus. OpenAI has reportedly sought experienced SEO strategists with expertise in growth and conversion rate optimisation. This indicates that SEO is not treated as a secondary channel but as a core part of long-term expansion plans.
Other AI platforms such as Claude by Anthropic and Perplexity are also applying structured SEO strategies to strengthen visibility. Key pillars of success include solid technical infrastructure that enables efficient crawling and indexing, strong brand authority, and content aligned with clear search intent.
ChatGPT’s website ranks for hundreds of thousands of keywords, spanning both branded and non-branded queries. This broad keyword footprint increases exposure across multiple stages of the user journey, from awareness to subscription.
Despite ongoing debates about how AI will reshape search behaviour, the report underscores that SEO continues to be a powerful engine for traffic, engagement, and revenue. For generative AI companies, organic search remains a strategic growth driver rather than a declining channel.
