Google introduces free AI-driven SAT practice tests using Gemini

A new step in AI-powered education is reshaping how students prepare for standardized exams, as Google brings free SAT preparation to learners through its AI platform.

Google announced that it is expanding its education focus to standardized testing by offering free SAT practice exams powered by Gemini. Students can begin by simply typing, “I want to take a practice SAT test,” after which Gemini generates a full-length practice exam at no cost.

Once the test is completed, Gemini reviews the results to highlight strengths and point out areas that need improvement. It also provides clear explanations for incorrect answers, helping students understand mistakes and concepts more effectively.

To ensure accuracy and relevance, Google said it has partnered with education providers such as The Princeton Review. This collaboration helps ensure the practice questions closely reflect what students can expect on the actual SAT.

The move is widely seen as a major boost for students who lack access to personalized SAT coaching. By removing cost barriers, Google aims to give more students a fair chance to compete. At the same time, the initiative adds to the ongoing discussion around how deeply AI should be involved in education and learning outcomes.

AI adoption in classrooms continues to raise concerns among educators. Some teachers worry that students may rely too heavily on tools like Gemini and ChatGPT, reducing independent thinking. Research has suggested that excessive dependence on AI tools could weaken critical thinking and problem-solving skills over time.

The launch also poses challenges for traditional SAT tutors. Free, AI-powered exam preparation could disrupt the long-standing tutoring industry, which has relied on personalized, paid coaching. With a no-cost alternative now available, private tutors may face growing pressure.

This update follows Google’s recent rollout of a Gemini-powered feature that allows teachers to create podcast-style audio lessons aimed at engaging Gen Z students. Other Gemini tools already support educators with lesson planning, idea generation, and customized learning materials.
