Yann LeCun launches Advanced Machine Intelligence startup with focus on world models

A new artificial intelligence venture led by one of the field’s most influential figures is beginning to take shape. Renowned AI researcher Yann LeCun has confirmed that his startup is called Advanced Machine Intelligence, or AMI Labs, following his departure from Meta last month.

LeCun, who is also a Turing Award laureate, announced that he will serve as executive chairman of the new company rather than taking on the role of chief executive officer. The move allows him to focus on research goals centred on world models, an AI approach designed to simulate and reason about the real world rather than only predict text.

In a post on a professional networking platform, LeCun said that Alex LeBrun, Co Founder and CEO of healthcare AI company Nabla, will become CEO of AMI Labs. As part of this leadership change, LeBrun will take on the role of Chief AI Scientist and Chairman at Nabla, while Delphine Groll, Nabla’s Co Founder and COO, will continue to manage daily operations. The board will search for a permanent CEO for Nabla.

According to a newspaper report, AMI Labs is aiming to raise EUR 500 million at a valuation of EUR 3 billion, even before officially launching the company or releasing any products.

LeCun has previously explained that AMI Labs will concentrate on world models, a form of AI architecture that enables systems to understand, simulate, and reason about real world environments. These models are expected to have applications across robotics, self driving vehicles, medical technology, AI agents, and other areas.

In a separate press release, AMI Labs also announced a strategic partnership with Nabla. Under this collaboration, Nabla will receive early access to “emerging world model technologies” for use in agent driven healthcare AI. These systems are expected to support healthcare professionals in decision making, simulation based reasoning, medical data handling, and certain diagnostic related tasks.

Commenting on the partnership, Alex LeBrun said world models could address current limits of AI in healthcare, where non deterministic reasoning and hallucinations have restricted fully autonomous clinical use. Nabla is already known for developing ambient AI assistants for clinicians.
