Adobe expands Firefly with new AI models, editing tools and limited free generations

Creative users are getting more flexibility on Adobe Firefly as the platform rolls out new artificial intelligence models, advanced editing tools and a limited time offer for unlimited generations.

Adobe announced that select paid users of Firefly will be able to generate unlimited AI images and videos until January 15. The company said the update gives users greater control over content creation and more choice in the models used for generating visuals. In November, the California based software company had added Google’s Nano Banana Pro image generation and editing model to Photoshop and Firefly.

In a blog post, Adobe detailed several new tools now available across Firefly on Android, iOS and the web. One of the key additions is the Prompt to Edit feature, powered by Runway’s Aleph model. The tool allows users to make precise text based edits to AI generated videos without regenerating the entire clip. Earlier, users had to start from scratch if the output needed changes.

Another new feature is the camera motion reference tool. When creating videos with the Firefly video model, users can upload a starting frame along with a reference video that shows the desired camera movement. Firefly then combines both inputs to generate a video that matches the motion style.

Adobe has also introduced 2 new AI models. The first is Topaz Astra, available through Firefly Boards. This model enables users to upscale videos to 1080p or 4K by improving detail and clarity. The process can run in the background, and multiple videos can be queued at the same time.

The second model is Flux.2 from Black Forest Labs. It is an image generation and editing model designed to deliver photorealistic results, improved text rendering and support for up to 4 reference images. Flux.2 is available in Firefly text to image, Prompt to Edit, Firefly Boards and Photoshop desktop through Generative Fill. Adobe said the model will also be added to Adobe Express in January.

Adobe is also expanding access to its Firefly video editor in public beta. The browser based tool allows users to combine generated clips, music and visuals using a multi track timeline. It also supports text based editing for interview and talking head videos.

To close the update, Adobe confirmed that Firefly Pro and Firefly Premium subscribers can access unlimited image and video generations until January 15.
