SBI prepares to launch YONO 2.0 with enhanced digital banking experience

State Bank of India is preparing to introduce YONO 2.0 on December 15, marking a major upgrade of its digital banking platform eight years after the launch of YONO. The bank aims to deliver a smoother and more intuitive user experience built on stronger security and deeper personalisation.

C S Setty, chairman of State Bank of India, said that “with YONO 2.0, we plan to drive a simple, intuitive digital journey,” adding that the upgraded platform blends security, personalisation, and scale. The existing platform has 100 million customers who will be fully migrated to the new version. YONO 2.0 has been designed to handle double the current user base. “Our vision is to serve 200 million customers with unmatched efficiency,” Setty added.

He also highlighted that technology allows the bank to acquire customers at one tenth of the cost of a branch while still offering personalised services. The platform’s multilingual interface further increases accessibility for users across India’s diverse population.

The new version brings several features focused on convenience and flexibility. Customers will be able to choose any channel that suits them, removing the existing requirement of being an internet banking user to access YONO. The app can now be used directly even without net banking registration.

“YONO 2.0 is designed to give customers choice, convenience, and confidence. From biometric security to multilingual access, we are ensuring that every Indian feels at home in our digital ecosystem,” said Setty. On iOS devices, users will have the ease of Face ID, while Android devices will offer biometric login. MPIN and other secure options will remain available for those who prefer alternatives.

The platform represents a complete technological reinvention. Its code has been rewritten across net banking, YONO, and branch systems to ensure unified product launches and a channel agnostic experience. Customers will be able to shift easily between digital and physical touchpoints.

By combining advanced marketing technology, YONO 2.0 aims to offer personalised and hyper personalised banking based on individual customer profiles across the app and net banking. The chairman believes this level of customisation is truly transformative for the future of digital banking.
