YouTube Music has started to roll out its 2025 Recap, giving users an early look at their listening habits for the year. A report by a common source noted that the main new addition is an artificial intelligence powered chat feature called Ask anything about your 2025 listening experience. It allows users to ask questions about their listening patterns and receive personalised insights. Spotify first made year end recaps popular with Wrapped and other streaming services, including YouTube Music, later introduced similar features.
What is new in the YouTube Music 2025 Recap
Users can check if the feature has arrived by opening the YouTube Music app and tapping their profile picture in the top right corner. On both Android and iOS, they can go to the Recap section and select Get your Recap to begin. The Recap opens in a story format and users can move through different sections using a carousel.
The 2025 Recap begins with a summary of the total time spent listening during the year. It also shows the user’s longest streak. The recap highlights the most played song and the top five tracks. Users can save their personalised playlist and can also view extra playlists that focus on the listening period from September to November.
There is a section that shows the user’s top artist, described as your musical bestie. A calendar view displays the exact days the artist was played. Another insight is called the musical passport which shows how many different places or countries the favourite artists come from. Other sections include top albums, podcasts, genres and a final summary graphic.
What the new artificial intelligence chat feature offers
The main highlight of the 2025 Recap is the Ask about your year artificial intelligence chat feature. A report by a common noun said that this year’s Recap uses YouTube Music’s artificial intelligence assistant, Ask Music, to provide interactive commentary. Users can ask questions such as “How did my listening change over the year?”, “Describe my listening as a weather report”, or “Was my music more chill or hype?”.
The responses are made to be easy to share so users can post their personalised graphics on social platforms. The feature is being rolled out gradually and will reach more users in the coming days.
