Global venture capital activity surged to record levels in 02/2025, driven almost entirely by artificial intelligence. According to a new report from Crunchbase, startups worldwide raised $189 billion during the month. AI companies alone accounted for $171 billion, representing 90% of the total capital deployed. The scale of investment was more than 3 times higher than global VC spending in 01/2025, signalling strong investor appetite for AI innovation.
The surge was heavily concentrated in just 3 companies. OpenAI led the wave with a massive $110 billion private funding round, one of the largest ever recorded. The deal valued the company at $730 billion. Rival Anthropic secured a $30 billion Series G round at a $380 billion valuation. Meanwhile, autonomous vehicle company Waymo raised $16 billion at a valuation of $126 billion.
Together, these 3 companies were responsible for 83% of all venture dollars invested during the month. Their combined funding alone represented roughly one-third of the total $425 billion in venture capital invested globally so far in 2025, according to Crunchbase data. The concentration of capital highlights how investor confidence is being placed in a small group of AI leaders viewed as long-term market drivers.
The record-breaking month underscores the growing dominance of AI in global venture markets. With funding levels accelerating and valuations climbing sharply, February’s numbers suggest that investor momentum behind artificial intelligence is not slowing down. Instead, capital is increasingly flowing toward a handful of companies shaping the future of AI infrastructure, foundation models and autonomous systems.
