Three arrested in Hyderabad for ₹19 crore USDT cryptocurrency fraud

A major cyber fraud case has come to light after investigators uncovered a cryptocurrency scam that targeted a city-based individual through a fake transaction process.

Cybercrime police in Hyderabad arrested 3 persons on Monday for allegedly cheating a man of ₹19 crore under the pretext of purchasing USDT cryptocurrency. The accused have been identified as Sushmim Shripati Gaikwad, Srikanth and Lucky Choudhary.

According to police officials, the suspects approached the victim earlier this year claiming they were interested in buying USDT from him. As part of the supposed deal process, they directed the victim to complete KYC verification on a website named “trontag.org”.

Officials said the website was actually created to gain unauthorised access to financial information and transfer funds illegally. “The website was actually a tool to hack into the bank accounts and transfer the money. When the victim filled information on the website, an amount of USDT 21,04,089 was transferred from his account to the conman,” said DCP (cyber-crimes) V Aravind Babu.

After discovering the fraud, the victim filed a complaint with the cybercrime police. Based on technical evidence and investigative leads, officers traced the operation and arrested the 3 accused. Police said Lucky Choudhary was responsible for designing and operating the fraudulent website used in the scam.

Authorities have confirmed that further investigation is ongoing to identify possible additional links and networks connected to the fraud.
